I came to Ms. Brinkley after I honestly had been screwed by dps on my road tests. I love that I was able to take a lesson prior to my test and I finally passed. She was the sweetest and didn’t make me feel nervous during the test. I definitely recommend coming here!

FAQs

You must be at least 15 years old to be eligible. However, it's recommended to start preparing for this day well in advance, as several requirements must be met before you can apply. One of the most important requirements is the completion of a Texas driver's education program. This program is mandatory for all teenage applicants and the legal age for starting driver's ed is 14. Therefore, it's a good idea to begin taking driver's ed classes well before you turn 15.

Document requirements for teenagers and adults are slightly different.

For teenagers:
  • The DE-964 issued at the time you complete the 32-hour course.
  • A leaners permit issued by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
  • A 30-hour log signed by the parent and student. No nighttime driving after 9:00 pm.
  • Teen Impact Texas video certificate. You can obtain it for free by following this link.
  • Verification of enrollment and/or current report card.
  • Cash payment for driving lessons and test.
  • You can find more information at DPS official website.
For adults:
  • The ADE-1317 issued at the time you complete the 6-hour course.
  • A leaners permit issued by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
  • Adult Impact Texas video certificate. You can obtain it for free by following this link.
  • Verification of enrollment and/or current report card if under 18 years of age.
  • Cash payment for driving lessons and test.
  • You can find more information at DPS official website.

If the student doesn't have a driver's permit:

Step 1 – Follow the prompts and pay $20.00 for the parent-taught portion of the teen driver education course.

Step 2 – Purchase and start the $89.00 online teen 24-hour driver education course, available at:

Step 3 – After a student has completed the road rules and signs portion of the course and is at least 15 years old, they are eligible to apply for a learner's permit at the Texas Department of Public Safety office. DPS appointment

The items required for that appointment are listed below:

  • The certificate from the online course that shows "for learner's license only".
  • A verification of enrollment from school or a current report card. DL-104.
  • A completed and unsigned application form DL-14b.
  • A completed and unsigned affidavit of residency form DL-5. This form requires supporting documentation. Please review the list of acceptable documents on the back of the form.
  • Pay $16.00 for the learner’s permit. Driver License Fee Schedule

NOTE: The Texas Department of Public Safety opens new appointments Monday to Friday at 9:30 am. If you are logged in at 9:25 am to schedule an appointment, the system updates at 9:30 am. You might be able to book an appointment within 5 days at that time.

After the student has received a valid, unexpired learner's permit, my school can offer them behind-the-wheel driving lessons in my school vehicle. The current rate is $50.00 per hour, with a two-hour minimum per scheduled date. All driving lessons are by appointment and cash or Zelle payment only.

To be eligible to schedule a driving test, you will need the following items. For teenage drivers, the eligibility date is 6 months after the permit was issued, if the student completed the teen driver education course and is 16 years old at the time of the test.

If the student has had a driver's permit for at least 6 months:

Documents required for the test:

  1. A completed and signed certificate of completion. Note: The in-car lab completion date must match the last date listed on the 30-hour log for hours driven.
  2. The unexpired learner's permit issued by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
  3. A completed and signed 30-hour log.
  4. A verification of enrollment from the school or current report card.
  5. Teen Impact Texas video certificate showing my TDLR school license #C3500. Teen Impact Texas Video

If the student has all documents and is ready to take the test:

The test is by appointment only. Please contact us via phone, email, or website to make an appointment. A pre-trip practice lesson is $50.00, the test is $120.00. Total: $170.00 (cash only).

After you have passed the driving test, a sealed envelope with the test packet documentation will be given to you to present to the Texas Department of Public Safety at the time of your next appointment. You will need to present the supporting documentation, including the learner's permit, DL-14b application for the license, and a DL-5 affidavit of residency. DPS Appointments

There are long wait times for an appointment with the Texas Department of Public Safety to turn in a driving test packet. View Wait Times

If the student wants to take a test and upload documents (eliminates the last visit to DPS):

We offer the upload option for the driver’s test packet to the Texas Department of Public Safety portal. It is an additional $200.00 on top of the test price. Total: $370.00 (cash only). The upload option for the driving test packet eliminates another visit to a Texas Department of Public Safety office to turn in the test packet. The rules for this additional service are described below. The upload requires a few additional steps prior to scheduling the driving test. This option is available from the Texas Department of Public Safety for students who test with me at my driving school.

Step 1 - Create an account at https://txt.texas.gov. If you choose the upload option, the account will allow the student to log in 3 business days after the driving test and pay for a driver license online. A temporary paper copy of the driver’s license will be available to print, and the original driver license will arrive in two weeks.

Step 2 – Pass your driving test at Brinkley’s Driving Schools, LLC.

Step 3 – Three business days after your test date, I will contact you and ask that you sign in to the account you created and follow the prompts to pay for your driver license with a “G” restriction. Additional information about the “G” restriction can be found at Graduated Driver License (GDL). This option is not for everyone. There are no guarantees that the test packet upload will be approved. If the test packet is not approved, I will contact you to ask that you schedule an appointment to turn in the sealed envelope with the original test packet documentation for your driver’s license.

If you have additional questions, please contact us via phone, email, or website.

If the student doesn't have a learner's permit issued by Texas Department of Public Safety:

Step 1 - Complete an online 6-hour adult driver education course and receive an ADE-1317 certificate to present to the Texas Department of Public Safety and receive a learner's permit. Link for the course: 6-Hour Adult Driving Course In Texas

Step 2 - Schedule an appointment online at https://www.txdpsscheduler.com/ to turn in your ADE-1317. The attached DL-14a and DL-5 forms are needed for your appointment. Please complete in black ink only and sign when you are in front of the technician who will accept your ADE-1317. Note: The DL-5 requires supporting documentation.

Step 3 - Schedule an appointment for driving lessons and a driving test at my school. Behind-the-wheel driving lessons in our school vehicle are $50.00 per hour, with a two-hour minimum per scheduled date. The driving lessons and testing include parallel parking. The driving test is currently $120.00 (cash or Zelle payment only).

If the student is ready to schedule the driving test:

Step 1 - Log in and complete a one-hour Adult Impact Texas video and receive a certificate of completion. The drop-down screen available when you log in will request a TDLR school number. Please enter TDLR license #C3500 for my school's name if you plan to test at my school. Link: Adult Impact Texas Video

Step 2 - Schedule an appointment for a $50.00 pre-trip practice lesson, including parallel parking, and a $120.00 driving test at my school. Total cash payment: $170.00.
Total time for the driving test appointment is 1 hour (20 min. pre-trip, 20 min. test, 10 min. paperwork preparation for the test packet).

Items needed for test packet:

  • ADE-1317 certificate from the 6-hour course
  • Adult Impact Texas Video Certificate showing TDLR License #C3500
  • Your learner's permit issued by Texas Department of Public Safety
  • $170.00 cash payment

Step 3 - Schedule your appointment at DPS to turn in your sealed envelope containing the driving test packet. Additional items needed for the appointment are a completed unsigned form DL-14a and form DL-5 with supporting documentation. Please complete both forms in black ink only and sign them when you are in front of the technician who will accept your test packet.
Note: The DL-5 requires supporting documentation.
